Arizona Entrepreneurs Create Verona Golf Company, a New Resort Style Country Club and Membership Program

SCOTTSDALE, AZ--(Marketwire - June 30, 2008) - Retired Manitou Springs, Colo. Police Sgt. Michael Herst was told he would never walk again after being injured in the line of duty while apprehending a dangerous criminal. Doctors told him he would spend the rest of his life in a wheel chair.

After developing severe rheumatoid arthritis, his doctor recommended Herst use the game of golf to assist in rehabilitation. He turned his passion for golf and a passion for the entertainment industry into several business ventures, including the Verona Golf Company, which launched this month. The Verona Golf Company is a private country club that plans to offer its members a network of more than 1,500 private golf clubs nationwide, opportunities to play some of the most exclusive courses worldwide and provides unique international golf and entertainment travel packages.

According to the PGA of America, the golfing industry is a well-established business where in 2005 golfers spent an average of $24.3 billion on equipment and fees. Of that, they spent $19.7 billion on public and private green fees and dues, which accounted for 81 percent of all spending.

Herst and fellow entrepreneur Neal Duncan collaborated to form the company. Herst is the president of MBS Elite, Inc., a charitable golf tournament management company, with four years of experience operating celebrity tournaments. Duncan is the president of AbleTel, Inc., a successful business management firm focused on building hyper-growth startup companies.

As CEO, Herst is responsible for company operations, real estate management and developing the Verona Lifestyle™. This lifestyle includes traveling to exotic locations with the status of being able to play some of the most exclusive golf courses worldwide. After retiring from the police department, Herst developed two international film festivals and a series of successful screenwriting conferences. With 10 years of corporate management experience, he later founded MBS Elite to help support charitable organizations dedicated to assisting the families of fallen police officers and firefighters.

As COO, Duncan is responsible for marketing, customer service, sales operations, systems and finances. Duncan has more than 18 years of business experience in the field of sales, marketing and customer management. Prior to co-founding the Verona Golf Company, Duncan was vice president of client services for LifeLock, an identity theft prevention service. Duncan also spent five years with AT&T, where he was responsible for business sales and marketing activities.

The Verona Golf Company will cater to the avid golfer who prefers playing a variety of courses and may already be a member of a private golf course, but is looking to experience the Verona Lifestyle™ through the many available membership benefits.
